A quick search on the Internet reveals that the term is derived from 2 English words fused together:glamourecampsite.

If for the termcampsiteit is easy to infer the meaning, because it is widely used in Italy and abroad, even by non-Anglophones, the termglamoura bit more in-depth. Usually this anglicism is associated with everything beautiful, exclusive, elegant, luxurious, but it can be more properly translated with the Italian term ’of charm”and perhaps we like to think ofglampingjust like a“a campsite full of charm and comfort”. .

Although this is a very recent trend, the concept has older origins than one might think: indeed, as early as the 16th century in Europe, nobles used to set up fields with lavish tents on their hunts, furnished with beds, carpets, and silver tableware. Famous is the “Field of the Cloth of Gold”(Field of the Cloth of Gold) in 1520, a lavish encampment set up in Flanders (between France and England) for the diplomatic meeting between Henry VIII of England and Francis I of France, in which the lodgings were indeed tents, but royal ones!

Moving closer to our time, at the start of the 20th century, this type of concept became widespread, particularly in Africa, when wealthy English and American explorers began to use tents, but ultra-comfortable and luxurious ones, for theirsafari.

And it's a concept that can still be found today in those unspoiled places: tents or eco-sustainable structures (mud, wood, clay, etc.), generally removable but at the same time spacious and furnished with extreme taste, almost always with local handicrafts.

And then read “real“, indeed very comfortable, spacious and elegant bathrooms, all kinds of services typical of a luxury hotel. All enclosed within structures that tend to become almost invisible:Nature and the surrounding environment are the true protagonists..

Sometimes to the question “Cos'è un glamping?“, the shortest answer I give is:“Do you know a queen going on safari? Imagine her tent and you'll get an idea of Glamping” undoubtedly luxurious.

That being said, much depends on what is understood by luxury: we believe that today an immersive experience in nature, done intelligently, with all the comforts and above all in an eco-sustainable way, is already aluxuryin itself.

In short, the experience innature(campsite) is the first ingredient, the second isluxury(glamour)to be able to experience it in harmony and with the comforts that can remove any obstacle to contemplation.

Here, let's say we struggle to think of aglampingwhere you have to cook for yourself, you have to use shared bathrooms, or worse, the tents/bungalows are right next to each other, making you lose the experience in nature… we just can't do it!

Here at “I Giardini del Caramante” you’ll find:Furnished tents of 20 sq m each, with comfortable 2-metre beds, mini-fridge, fan, fan heater (for chilly springs), chest of drawers, walls that can be opened for sleeping while looking at nature and being caressed by the breeze, en-suite bathroom with every comfort, hammocks, outdoor lounge area.

all resting on a platform with knurled chestnut slats.

Each unit is at least 20 metres from the next and, of course, set within a wood of ancient olive trees.

In general, I hope I have managed to clarify your ideas on this topic a little.
